Offline receipt camera vs scanner and expense apps

Use a receipt scanner when you need a clear photo or a PDF (Portable Document Format) to keep or send. Use an expense app when you need help adding up amounts, sorting spending or making reports. Receipt Camera scans and saves the pages; it does not do the bookkeeping.
What do you need to do?
Some apps scan paper. Others help you keep track of spending. Some do both. Choose the features you need, and check whether they are included in the free version or cost extra.

When Receipt Camera is enough
Use Receipt Camera to keep a photo of a receipt or letter, or send several scans in one PDF. Your photos stay together in the gallery. One-tap save lets you keep taking photos without leaving the camera.
When an expense app is a better fit
Choose an expense app if you want it to read amounts, sort your spending or make an expense report. Receipt Camera does not do those jobs. You can use the saved photos to enter the amounts yourself or send them to someone who handles your expenses.
How to compare apps fairly
- Use the same receipt and lighting in each app.
- Check the crop and zoom in on the same small print.
- Save a photo and export a multi-page PDF if those are the outputs you need.
- Open the exported file outside the scanning app.
- Check account requirements, offline behaviour, ads and any limits before capturing a large pile.

Does offline mean photos can never reach the cloud?
No. Receipt Camera does not upload your photos. If you share them or turn on backup in another app, that app can send them online. Read our guide to keeping receipt photos on your phone to check your backup settings.
Questions
Can Receipt Camera export a multi-page PDF?
Yes. Select saved scans in the gallery and tap Export PDF. Each selected scan becomes one page.
Do all scanner apps upload documents?
No. Some scanners work without uploading. Check the app’s settings and any photo-backup app you use.
Does Receipt Camera replace an expense tracker?
No. It saves photos and puts them in PDFs. It does not add up amounts, sort purchases or make expense reports.
